First launch for Yahoo! brand universe
Last November Yahoo! told us that they were in the course of developing their brand universe. This week the first of many was launched on Yahoo! It is being heralded all over the web as a very smart move by Yahoo! Basically what they have done is identified over 100 brands popular on their ranking and launch a branded minisite which pulls in content from all over Yahoo!.What you end up with is a dynamic Web 2.0 site with media and content pulled up from for example Flickr and Delicious. Add to this Yahoo videos, various widgets and a slick design and we end up with something which looks rather attractive.
At the moment it is not clear if these initiatives are being sponsored by brands as there is a clear value behind the project as a brand awareness prop. In the past I have witnessed a lot of investment in online brand awareness campaign especially by larger global advertisers and this may have the horrible effect of making advertising people feel well .. rather insignificant.
